Istana Main Entrance on Orchard Road
Since 1959, the Istana Ceremonial Guards have stood watch at the Istana Main Entrance on Orchard Road. Initially guarded by combat troops, the duty transitioned to the Singapore Armed Forces Guards Unit in 1968.
Today, a platoon of 20 guards from the Singapore Armed Forces Military Police Command rotates monthly for sentry duty. The Changing of Guards Ceremony, modeled after Buckingham Palace's tradition, occurs on the first Sunday evening of each month. It involves 36 Guards, two Commanders, and a Rifle Precision Drill. Note: Weather conditions may affect the ceremony's schedule.
